![]() ![]() They turn a corner as if to show the way and bring them to a trap created by Mindflayers. What if the legends of sea serpents weren't nothing more than tall tales after all.įlumpfs (MM): Idling floating blobs of light and jelly feels very alien, doesn't it? Perhaps a few follow the party and make them feel uneasy with their pale green glows. You'd need to tweak the attacks a tad bit for this accomadation, but it would make an interesting fight. Plesiosaur (MM): Continuing from the idea of the party heading to the waterfront and rebranding, You could easily put in a plesiosaur, only instead of having a singular neck with a head at the end, it has two tentacles that slam towards the players and attempt to "bite" them with hooked claws at their end. Maybe the Kraken of old is an Old One lying asleep, craving a bit of a snack? Kraken (MM): Rebranding is fun, so why not have the party face off against an aspect of an outer god in the water, where many mysteries lie unsolved beneath the waves. Perhaps these casters are not from this world after all? Hags (MM): Inspired by the fact that Lovecraft wrote Dreams from the Witch House which was itself a connection to the Outer Gods. It may sound silly, but they could prove to be enlightened by some wisdom from the cosmos to transcend their human bodies. CR rating of 1/4 means that if utilized, you may want them to attack in hordes. Mongrelfolk (Curse of Strahd): For the sake of not spoiling a ything in the module, they are simply various races with beastlike appearances. A new take on Frankenstein's Monster, it would be easy to incorporate their creation by the hands of a Great Old One Warlock in an attempt to play god. One of my favorite set of stories by Lovecraft is Herbert West-Reanimator. Not only does this build suspense, but it also can help integrate more mystery into the setting.įlesh Golems (MM): Hear me out on this one. I'd actually reccomend varying it up a bit with the monsters in the first parts of the campaign. Any creatures you think I've missed please let me know, or any sources beyond MM and Volos that have something good. Anything with excessive tentacles is fair game as well.
